Race entries now open
Aquabike (aka Aquavelo) is an endurance sport composed of swimming and cycling stages.
It consists of swimming and biking, usually taking place simultaneously with and on the same outdoor course as a triathlon competition. The running stage is eliminated so that people with joint problems prohibiting them from running or just those who do not have an affinity to running can still enjoy the multisport lifestyle.
Who can race Aquabike?
Anyone who cannot, will not or should not run but is keen to compete in multisport races. Ex-triathletes who have health challenges precluding them from running or cyclists or swimmers who have never considered multisport before due to having to complete a run portion of the race.
Where can you race?
It will take place alongside the Skerries Triathlon on the 05th September 2021 . It is fully sanctioned by Triathlon Ireland.
What's involved in the Fingal Aquabike?
The swim course is the same as the sprint distance triathlon (750m), this is followed by T1.
750m sea swim from south strand beach to "the Springers" exit via wide steps
The bike course is a 3 loop course on CLOSED ROADS with very smooth road surfaces in almost every part. The first 2km is a little technical through Quay street and Hoar rock as you leave Skerries, but then you are on the open road, hugging the coastline as you head for Balbriggan. Take time to appreciate the beautiful sea view as you speed along!
The turnaround point will be on a wide section of road, and then it is a very fast 5k section back into Skerries.
Competitors complete 3 x loops (between the 2 turnaround points) of the cycle course. (28.5 km)
Then return via the pink route (below) via Hoar rock to transition.
Timing finishes once you enter T2 – run / walk to the finish chute to collect your fantastic medal!
