The year that was 2020!
2020 marks the 11th anniversary of our club and it is fair to say that Fingal Junior Tri Club is going from strength to strength. Up to March our monthly format of a 3 hour / 3 sport session was working very well, and our numbers of attendance were superb as Fingal Tri was joined by juniors from many other clubs in Leinster and Ulster. Unfortunately, from March we had to lay low and zoom became our great friend.
Triathlon Ireland went all ‘you tube’ on us and there was lots of fantastic content put up. Classes, of all sorts, were made available to the wider triathlon audience. Great praise goes to Gary Crossan who delivered (and still is!) a weekly junior turbo session. This was very well attended by juniors right across the country as well as our own Fingal crew.
This year there was limited opportunity to race, and indeed our own junior triathlon that would usually be held in Skerries fell victim to Covid-19 so instead we decided to go ahead with a summer camp in Skerries in August for Fingal members only. This was a super success, and it was great to see the kids out and about again doing their sports. We have also continue to have a few other outdoor sessions for members and these are going very well.
In these uncertain times we have had to limit our usual welcome to juniors to just Fingal Triathlon Club members. We will be sticking to the great outdoors for the remainder of 2020 and well into 2021.
Our numbers are growing all the time and our coaching team is also growing with the recent addition of Yannick Chavlier joining Elena, Jeremy Anne and myself. Thanks also to Bernie, Olga and Adrian who are always on hand to help out.
2020 was a unique year and I think its fair to say the children have done very well given the circumstances that they have had to live with. 2021 will hopefully be back to a more normal world!
